  • Built in 1926 by William Muller, Wilmington, CA.
  • Launched, 1926
  • Acquired by the Navy, 2 February 1942
  • Placed in service , 19 February 1942, as Volador (IX-59), at Section Base, San Pedro, CA.
  • Placed out of service and delivered the War Shipping Administration, 17 August 1943, for transfer to the US Army
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 3 September 1943
  • USAV Volador (TP-248) served the US Army as a communications ship in the Southwest Pacific Area (SWPA) Volador participated in the Papua-New Guinea campaign
  • In addition to standard CP fleet duties Volador became a radio repair ship "to supply floating maintenance wherever most required."
