5176k On `8 December 2018, the M/V Mary Lucy Lane, was locking southbound with nine (9) loads and three (3) empties at Markland Locks and Dam, Ohio River Mile 531.5. The tow configuration was three (3) barges wide by four (4) barges long with empties located on the head of the tow on each of the three (3) strings of barges. As the tow attempted to align in the approach, the tow made contact with the guard wall bullnose. The tow cleared the guard wall bullnose; however, it continued forward forcing the middle string into an allision with the land wall bullnose, riding up to a stop, and removing a section of the bullnose concrete. The port string broke loose and continued forward into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers USACE M/V Gibson’s Docking area, where it collided with the M/V Gibson. The M/V Gibson sustained damage to the pilothouse and the lower deckhouse. John Spivey
