Relief served the U. S. Lighthouse Service, Navy and Coast Guard
Light Vessel:

  • The fifth Relief was built in 1904 by Burles Drydock Co., Port Richmond, NY
  • Completed 26 May 1904 and placed in service as Relief (LV 76)
  • Acquired by the Navy 29 August 1918
  • Returned to the Lighthouse Service 30 August 1919
  • Reclassified WAL-504
  • Placed out of service 16 September 1960
  • Sold 9 October 1961 to Mr. A. Jensen and renamed Ark
  • Sold in 1964/1965 to the Belche family of Seattle, WA and renamed Claire Anne
  • Acquired in 1978 by Rivtow Straights Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and relocated to the Fraser River
  • Sold 22 October 1980 to Victor Kent Staudinger, Michael J. Wilson, and William T. Bonniman
  • Reclassified 28 November 1985 as a Barge
  • Sold in 2007 to Michael Morgan and renamed Maude Morgan
  • Moved in the spring of 2012 to Mission, British Columbia
  • Sank at her dock 24 March 2017 and will be scrapped.

  • Draft 12' 6"
  • Speed 10 kts.
  • Complement eight (1904), 15 (1945)
  • Armament: None
  • Propulsion: Two Foster-Wheeler watertube boilers and one 381hp compound reciprocating steam engine, one shaft (for station keeping)
    Converted to diesel engine in 1963
