USLHT Haze

Lighthouse Tender:

  • Built in 1861 by Charles Mallory and Son Shipyard, Mystic, CT
  • Renamed Haze
  • 1862 Chartered by U.S. Government in 1862, for use as troop and supply ship on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts during Civil War
  • Acquired 27 July 1865 by S. W. Jerome of New York, NY
  • Purchased by the Lighthouse Board 6 June 1867 and was the first steam Lighthouse Tender used on the Great Lakes
  • Rebuilt in 1876 at Gibson and Craig Shipyard, Buffalo, NY
  • Renamed Dover and used in connection with the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad, but little is known of this vessel
  • Placed out of service with the Lighthouse Service 15 March 1905
  • Acquired in 1907 by Jacob Ullman of Buffalo
  • Scrapped in 1907.

  • Armament: None as a Lighthouse Tender
    1891 - Five 3-pounders and four 1-pounders
  • Propulsion: Two boilers, one 292hp 2-cylinder single expansion steam engine both built by H. Delameter of New York, NY, one shaft.
