SC-1466 Class (Canadian Fairmile Class) Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 30 January 1942 as HMC ML-398 by the Leblanc Shipbuilding Co., Weymouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
  • Launched 24 November 1942
  • Reclassified as Submarine Chaser and commissioned USS PC-1472, 5 December 1942 at Weymouth, Nova Scotia
  • Reclassified SC-1472 in April 1943
  • Ran out of fuel 25 October 1943 off Barnegat, NJ while escorting U.S. freighter James L. Couper; YMS-359 in the vicinity, is diverted to the scene as weather worsens. Weather turns into a severe
    northeast storm on 26 October 1943 and strikes the eastern seaboard between Cape May, NJ and Nantucket, MA and YMS-359 is unable to put a line on board the SC-1472 in the prevailing gale. HMCS Guysborough (J 57) located SC-1472 on 27 October 1943 off Brigantine Shoals, NJ and tows her to New York
  • Decommissioned 30 June 1945
  • Transferred in March 1948 to the War Shipping Administration for disposal
  • Acquired 4 March 1948 by the De Rega Trading Co. of Miami, FL for use as a freighter and named Marblehead
  • Burned 6 February 1950 in Cockburn Harbor, Caicos Island, British West Indies.
