SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 14 March 1942 by W. A. Robinson Inc., Ipswich, MA
  • Launched 11 August 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-760, 10 September 1942
  • Reclassified SC-760 in April 1943
  • Visited Auckland, New Zealand 15 and 28 October 1944
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaser, SCC-760, 20 August 1945
  • Decommissioned in 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 26 February 1946
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 4 February 1948
  • Acquired in 1948 by Ernest A. Judd of Los Angeles, CA for use as a tugboat and named Pacific Retriever
  • Acquired in 1950 by the Pacific Towboat and Salvage Co. of Long Beach, CA
  • Scrapped in 1952.

  • Displacement 148 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
