SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 6 May 1941 by the Seabrook Yacht Corp., Houston, TX
  • Launched 31 January 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-502, 3 June 1942
  • Reclassified as SC-502 in July 1942
  • She had patrol duties in the Tulagi-Lunga Point and Guadalcanal areas as well as the Russell Islands
  • Visited Auckland, New Zealand 6 - 18 January 1945
  • SC-502 was cited for its part in rescuing the crew of a sinking SC in the Pacific while en route back to Pearl Harbor in late July of 1945
  • Decommissioned in October 1945 at San Francisco, CA
  • Struck from the Naval Register 19 December 1945
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration 21 May 1948
  • Acquired in 1952 by John B. R. Wilson of Sacramento, CA for use as a fishing boat and named Lois B.
  • Acquired in 1956 by George A. Almand of San Diego, CA
  • Acquired in 1962 by the Chile-California Corp. of San Diego
  • Out of documentation in 1989
  • Fate unknown.

  • Speed 15.6 kts.

  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "Y Gun," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
