SC-1 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down at the Mathis Yacht Building C0., Camden, NJ
  • Commissioned USS SC-71, 28 March 1918
  • Used in connection with efforts to salvage the submarine S-5 (SS 110) which sank in September 1920
  • Sold 26 May 1921 to Henry A. Hitner Sons Co. of Philadelphia, PA
  • Sale to take effect when no longer required for salvage operations
  • Delivered to purchaser 19 September 1921
  • Fate unknown.

  • Max Draft (fl) 5' 8"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Complement 27
  • Armament: One single 3"/23 gun mount, two .30 cal. machine guns, and one depth charge projector "Y Gun"
  • Propulsion: Three Standard 220hp gasoline engines, three shafts.
