SC-1 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down at the New York Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY
  • Commissioned USS SC-63, 16 May 1918 and assigned to the Second and Third Naval Districts
  • On 28 October 1918, she headed overseas, bound for ASW service; but arrived at Ponta Delgada, Azores, on 12 November 1918, one day after the Armistice was signed, and therefore never reached the
    destination port, and was sent back to the U.S.
  • In 1919, she served in the south, reaching ports including St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; New Orleans, LA; Guantanamo, Cuba; Key West, FL and Pensacola, FL
  • Decommissioned 23 March 1920, but it appears to have been recommissioned, as there are service notes in the Ship Movements Books showing military service in 1921 in Memphis, TN; St. Louis, MO
    and other locations
  • Sold 22 July 1931 to Alexander A. Tanos of New York, NY for use as a fishing boat and named Kingfisher
  • Fate unknown.
