PCS-1376 Class Patrol Craft Sweeper:

  • Originally planned as PC-1423 but reclassified PCS-1423 in April 1943
  • Laid down 22 December 1942 at Burger Boat Co., Manitowoc, Wisconsin
  • Launched 22 May 1943
  • Commissioned USS PCS-1423, 16 November 1943 at New Orleans, LA
  • Decommissioned 18 June 1955 at Vicksburg, Mississippi and placed in service as a naval reserve training vessel
  • Named Prescott 15 February 1956
  • Placed out of service and struck from the Navy Register 1 March 1962
  • Sold 27 June 1962 to Frank Reis of Long Island, NY
  • Later the fishing boat Prescott out of Cape Charles, VA
  • Still in service in 1978
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 251 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8' 7"
  • Speed 14.1 kts.
  • Complement 57
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 20mm gun mount, four depth charge projectors, one depth charge projector (hedgehog), and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.

    Ashore after its towing vessel, the fishing craft Sea King, struck a rock jetty at Barnegat Inlet, New Jersey, and sank. The Prescott had just been purchased from the Navy at Brooklyn, New York

    Prescott 144k Aground in February 1963 after being purchased from the Navy. She was being towed south from Brooklyn, NY when her towing vessel, the fisherman Sea King, struck the stone jetty off Barnegat Inlet (NJ) and sank in the surf about 1 mile south of the inlet. The Prescott went high and dry two hundred yards south of the Sea King (on the right). Both were saved were still fishing in 1965
