PT-58 was built for Great Britain
77' Elco Motor Torpedo Boat:

  • Planned as Motor Boat Submarine Chaser, PTC-26
  • Reclassified PT-58 in June 1941
  • Laid down 22 July 1941 by the Electric Boat Co., Elco Works, Bayonne, NJ
  • Reclassified BPT-10 later that month
  • Launched 3 October 1941
  • Transferred to Great Britain 23 February 1942
  • Completed 10 March 1942
  • Reclassified HM MTB-316, 14 June 1942 and assigned to the 10th/15th MTB Flotillas
  • Lost 17 July 1943 by a direct hit from the Italian Cruiser Scipione Africano in the Strait of Messina, near Reggio di Calabria, Italy.

    Specifications:

  • Beam 19' 11"
  • Draft 4' 6"
  • Speed 41 kts.
  • Complement 15
  • Armament: Two twin .50 cal. Browning M2 machine guns in Dewandre turrets and four 21" torpedoes
