PC-493 served the Navies of the United States and Thailand.

PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 9 August 1941 at the Dravo Corp., Neville Island, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Launched 24 January 1942
  • Commissioned 28 May 1942 at New Orleans, LA
  • Decommissioned in September 1945 at Subic Bay, Philippines
  • Transferred to the Foreign Liquidation Commission 10 May 1947 and sold to Thailand
  • Lost in a typhoon at Manila Bay shortly after purchase in May 1947
  • Stripped and abandoned.

  • Length 173' 8"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount; three 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 2,880bhp Hooven-Owen-Rentschler R-99DA diesel engines (Serial No. 6670 and 6671), Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
