1022k On May 22, 1946, seven men, three women and seven children; two of them babies set sail from Honolulu to Everett, Washington in Mahina Hou [Ex-LCT(6)1456]. Their goal was to eventually start a colony in Alaska. The trip from Hawaii to Washington State took nineteen days, arriving on June 10, 1946. They experienced high winds and 70 foot waves along the way. By July 1946 the group built a new community near Cordova Alaska and started operating the LCT under a new company called the "Alaska Allied Industries". They settled at Zaikof Bay on Montaque island in the entrance to Prince Edward sound. They built their camp, lumber mill, bunkhouse, cookhouse, four private cabins, storehouse and workshop with a lumber output of 10,000 feet per day.
