  • Laid down, 11 August 1943, as Hayter (DE-212), a Buckley Class Destroyer Escort, at Charleston Navy Yard, Charleston S.C.
  • Launched, 11 November 1943
  • Commissioned USS Hayter (DE-212), 16 March 1944, LCDR. Harold J. Theriault, USNR in command
  • Converted to a Charles Lawrence Class High-speed Transport, at Philadelphia Navy Yard, Philadelphia PA, redesignated (APD-80), 1 June 1945
  • During World War II USS Hayter was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and participated in the following action:

  • Decommissioned, 19 March 1946, at Green Cove Springs FL.
  • Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Texas Group, Orange, TX.

  • Transferred to South Korea, 23 July 1967 and renamed ROKS Jon Nam (PG-86) in 1972 redesignated Escort Transport (APD-86)
  • Purchased outright by South Korea, 15 November 1974
  • Redesignated (APD-827) in 1980 and finally redesignated (DE-827) in 1982
  • Final Disposition, struck from the South Korean Navy 1986 and expended as a target by South Korean and US Navy's
  • USS Hayter earned one battle star for World War II service
