  • Launched, 25 February 1943
  • Commissioned USS Daniel T. Griffin (DE-54), 9 June 1943, at Boston Navy Yard, Boston, MA., LCDR Perry M. Fenton, USNR, in command
  • Converted at Staten Island, N.Y. to a High-speed Transport
  • Redesignated (APD-38), 23 October 1944
  • During World War II USS Daniel T. Griffin was assigned first to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater as Destroyer Escort DE-54 and later to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as High Speed Transport APD-38 assigned to TransDiv One Hundred Six, CAPT. F. W. Schmidt USN (20) and participated in the following campaign:
