USS Niagara (III)

Steamer:

Built as the steamer Niagara in 1877 by John Roach and Sons, Chester, PA.

Acquired by the Navy from Ward Line Steamship Company 11 April 1898

Fitted out as a distilling and supply ship of the Collier Service

Commissioned, USS Niagara, 11 April 1898 at New York, CDR. George. A. Bicknell in command

During the Spanish-American War she served the fleet off Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Haiti

Niagara remained on station in the Caribbean Sea until 24 July 1898 when she departed Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for New York, arriving 3 September 1898

Niagara remained at New York until she decommissioned 14 October 1898

Final Disposition, sold 19 July 1899. Renamed Brunswick in 1907, then Truxillo in 1919. Scrapped in 1926.
