  • Launched, 19 October 1944
  • Acquired by the Navy, 31 October 1944 from the Maritime Commission
  • Converted to an Internal Combustion Engine Repair Ship at Bethlehem Key Highway Plant, Baltimore, MD.
  • Commissioned USS Samar (ARG-11), 5 June 1945, CDR. Andrew Milton Harvey, USN in command
  • During World War II USS Samar was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
  • Following World War II USS Samar was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods:
