  • Launched 15 September 1954
  • Reclassified as an Ocean Minesweeper, MSO-490, 7 February 1955
  • Commissioned USS Leader (MSO-490), 16 November 1955
  • Decommissioned 30 November 1970 at Naval Station Long Beach, CA and moved to Harbor Boat Yard, Terminal Island, CA for a modernization overhaul
  • Recommissioned "Special" 11 February 1972 at Long Beach
  • Recommissioned 6 March 1972
  • Decommissioned 12 December 1991 and laid up at Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility, Portsmouth, VA
  • Struck from the Naval Register 18 March 1992
  • Sold for scrap 18 August 1994 by Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service to NR Aquilinity of New York, NY for $28,880
  • Broken up at Wilmington, NC.
