  • Laid down, 8 March 1943, as SS James S. Hogg, a Maritime Commission type (EC2-S-C1) hull, under Maritime Commission (MCE hull 846) contract, at Todd-Houston Shipbuilding Corp., Houston, TX.
  • Launched, 23 April 1943
  • Acquired by the US Navy, 29 November 1943
  • Converted for Naval service at the US Naval Dry Docks, Terminal Island, CA.
  • Commissioned, USS Pavo (AK-139), 14 January 1944, at San Pedro, CA., LCDR. Roswell E. King in command
  • During World War II USS Pavo was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
  • Decommissioned, 30 November 1945, at Norfolk, VA.
  • Returned to the Maritime Commission, 1 December 1945, name revered to SS James S. Hogg, laid up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River, Lee Hall, VA.
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 19 December 1945
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 26 October 1971, to Hierros Ardes S.A., Spain, delivered 26 January 1972
